Ladies of the Garden Series Taino Women

Ladies of the Garden Series Taino Women

Taino people are part of my Puerto Rican heritage . The Taino people called (Borinquen) their name of Puerto Rico home for about 700 to 1000 years. Sadly in the early 1500s, the Spaniards arrived on the island and most of the Tainos were enslaved, and the women became wives for the soldiers. They contributed a great deal culturally and their contributions can be seen today in artwork, food and language. This women represents strength, beauty and wisdom and could also be a women from biblical times.  And today  more than ever she represents all that my culture is while dealing with hurricane Maria.   Our hearts are broken and we are filled with sorrow but we know that there is light after this darkness and Puerto Rico will be rebuilt and become beautiful again.
